No. There are some areas within the United States that do not allow gray water systems and there are areas in the United States that will allow it, if specific design guidelines are met. This varies from place to place depending solely on the education level of those making these restrictions. Although a gray water collection and reuse systems have been around for thousands of years and even used widely throughout the United States throughout the 1800’s, some community leaders are still not fully educated on their benefits or history of use. As with any “new” idea, it is met with skepticism and resistance, however, it has been our experience that with a little education and explanation; jurisdictions that were resistant to the idea usually come around and allow it. This must be assessed at a case by case basis as we encounter it. The bottom line is most inspecting authorities know very little, if not, nothing of the operation of these systems and they must be educated on their use and benefits.
