STEVE MUELLER

PRESIDENT

Steve founded the Universal Design Consortium (UDC) in November of 2002, specializing in residential and commercial design and providing computer aided design (CAD) and presentation services to local architects and commercial builders while he attended architecture school at Texas Tech University.

Steve was born and raised in a small ranching community in South Texas. Steve graduated from Jourdanton High School. He entered into the United States Air Force and served on active duty for 4 years and is a Desert Storm, Vigilant Warrior and Southern Watch veteran. Steve also served in both the Virginia Army National Guard in Virginia Beach, VA and as a platoon leader with the Texas Army National Guard in Abilene, TX. Steve also served as a contractor for Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom in 2005 -2006 in the Middle East.

Steve’s experience includes drafting and custom home design for local San Antonio home builders. He has worked in all areas of design and construction to include; project superintendent, project manager, and estimator for various construction companies in San Antonio and Lubbock. In 1998 he moved to Hampton, Virginia to explore aquatic design and to supervise residential and commercial swimming pool construction and design.

He has earned associates degrees in Drafting from St. Phillips College and Fine Arts from Palo Alto College in San Antonio. Steve is currently working on his Masters of Architecture degree at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.

Steve is best known for his work in sustainable architecture with an emphasis on reduced energy or zero energy design for both residential and commercial applications. As well as, single family, multi family and community shelter design, designed to maximize survival during and after a contingency event.

Steve is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), Associate member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), The American Civil Defense Association (TACDA), Air Force Association (AFA), Association of the United States Army (AUSA), National Storm Shelter Association (NSSA) and honorary member of the Arnold Air society (AAS) Detachment 820 Texas Tech University.
