History

Universal Design Consortium LLC (UDC) was founded by Steve Mueller on February 2, 2002 while he was attending Texas Tech University College of Architecture in Lubbock, Texas. First configured as a Sole Proprietorship, UDC provided Drafting Services for local Architects in the Lubbock area. In 2006, UDC expanded into a Architectural Firm, employing a staff of fifteen and offering both Commercial, Residential Design and Construction Management services in Texas. By mid 2007 UDC had created a Research & Development component to produce the Universal Home™ and to evaluate and study UDC’s prototype performance strategies in the field. The Universal Home™, first developed to meet the Low to Moderate Income (LMI) housing needs for Community Development Departments in West Texas has expanded to production home construction. Today UDC’s offers both Commercial, Residential Design and Consulting services with a specific concentration on the energy aspect of building design, utilizing high-performance material and system integration with a emphasis on Earthen architectural construction principles and strategies. UDC is on the forefront of the evolution of a hybrid Modern Adobe solution to sustainable high performance building design. UDC has been registered with the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners since 2006 and now reflective under TBAE Reg. #BR-1702.

Our Passion. With inflation, cost of construction, energy costs constantly on the rise, over last ten years of research and development, UDC has developed and perfected the Modern Adobe Universal Home™ specifically designed reduce construction and living costs.    

Residential Design

UDC provides Design, Design-Build and Consulting Services for Low to Moderate Income, Moderate Income and Luxury Home Design. UDC will work with your builder from beginning to end of your project to ensure excellence.    

Commercial Design

UDC has designed Commercial Buildings to include Multifamily, Religious, Restaurant, Retail. Industrial, Office and Community Development and Revitalization throughout Texas.  

Survival Design

With the changing times, comes new threats. UDC has long incorporated Short Term Shelter systems within our building designs, but offer a full range of above and below grade Short, Medium and long term Shelter in Place design solutions.    

Consulting

Specializing in High Performance Building Design, Material integration and alternative Construction techniques and mythology, UDC offers consulting in Modern Adobe applications.
